On 18th of May 2017, during the second meeting with the leaders of Village Councils in the Municipality of Vitia we opened the discussion of involving more women in their local institutions.
The meeting highlighted the results of the current situation about women’s involvement in local decision-making institutions, which are an outcome of the previous meetings. We encouraged the participants to give recommendations on how to improve the situation and increase the involvement of women in these meetings, for the Villages’ Councils new regulation.
In this meeting, the 20 leaders promised that in the upcoming elections they will create more favorable conditions and encourage more women to run for decision-making roles. One of the recommendations of the meeting was also to include a gender quota in the new regulation for the Village Councils.
