On December 13th a round-table discussion was held with the leaders of Village Councils in the Municipality of Drenas. The discussion focused on the involvement of women as members of village councils, and equal opportunities for women and men in the position of chairperson and in membership.

The involvement of women in this structure was discussed from the perspective of women’s potential and the diversity brought by the contribution of women and men together, as well as by the legal obligation that obliges all decision-making structures for equal gender representation. Through this meeting, community leaders were also informed of the willingness and interest of young women from the Drenas municipality (certified by PEN in local decision-making and community engagement) to be part of the Village Councils and contribute to the problems and challenges faced by the villages and neighborhoods where they live.

This activity was realized within the project “Act on Equality”, which is supported by the U.S. Department of State.
