An unusual event happened in Skënderaj, one you don’t witness everyday, a football tournament with teams made up of girls and boys. This activity was made possible with the support of PEN project “Act on Equality”.
During the match all the participants played with joy and enthusiasm, and this was a means to break stereotypes which are appointed to them. NGO PEN as part of this project, held a three-day long training with the youth of Skënderaj. The topic of the training was “Gender based and sexual violence”.
To wrap up the activities the young people from this community put up posters and held lectures, inviting girls and boys to join a football tournament regardless of gender norms. The invitation highlighted the fact that girls and boys will take part no matter what stereotypes. “We changed the approach of these young people through this project. Sport is for everyone, and the stereotypes are being challenged.” said Kadri Gashi, project manager.
