On September 10th a community meeting took place in Ramjan village in the municipality of Viti. The meeting was co-organized with the village leader, Mr. Kadri Ismajli. The meeting aimed at discussing about the gender perspective in the Village Councils and the opportunities for including women as members in the Council. The Village Council of Ramjan has currently no women as members.
Therefore, a particular focus of the meeting was discussing the conventional social norms and other discriminatory practices (including institutional ones) that discourage women from being part of decision-making. In addition, other practical matters were elaborated, such as the place, the time and the means of inviting both men and women to join the general meetings of the Council. The activity is part of the project “Act on Equality”, supported by U.S. Department of State.
